"Yesterday" was an album track on the "Help!" soundtrack in the UK. In the United States, it was released as a single on September 13th, 1965, together with "Act Naturally". It reached number one on October 9th, 1965 (John Lennon's 25th birthday.]. It toppled The McCoy's "Hang On Sloopy" until it finally gave way to "Get Off My Cloud" by the Rolling Stones".
In Great Britain, it was finally released as a single in 1976 and even then managed to reach number eight!
