"We Can Work It Out" was released in both the UK and US as a single with the same song on the flip side, "Day Tripper". In America it was released on December 6th, 1965 and entered the Hot 100 at number 36 12 days later. "Day Tripper" debuted at number 56 the same week. On January 8th it became the Beatles' 11th number one single, replacing Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sounds Of Silence". It was number one for 3 weeks before allowing "The Sounds Of Silence one more week at number one.
In the UK it was the Beatles ninth number one and became the first to have both sides listed at number one as well.
