"Ticket To Ride" was released in America on April 19th, 1965. On the flip-side was "Yes It Is". "TTR" entered the Hot 100 at number 59 on April 24, 1965. "YII" debuted the following week at number 71. "TTR" took the scenic route to the top, moving to 58, 18 and 3. It overcame Herman's Hermits' "Mrs. Brown, You've Got A Lovely Daughter" the week of May 22nd to become the Beatles eighth number one. For all that, it only stayed a week and was pushed to one side by the Beach Boys' "Help Me Rhonda".

"Yes It Is" only managed to climb as high as number 46.

  • George Harrison (in 1965) "We are always worried with each record. With 'Ticket To Ride' we were even more worried. There's bound to be a time when we come in at 19 (on the charts). But this 'number one' business doesn't seem to stop-- great while it lasts-- but now we'll have to start all over again and people will start predicting funny things for the next one."
