Born in Moose Jaw, Art Ellefson began playing profession-ally in Toronto. In 1952, he moved to England. In his 17 years there, he performed with Vic Lewis, Ted Heath, John Dankworth and Woody Herman. He returned to Canada in 1974 and became a featured soloist with Phil Nimmons, plus many small group performances with Ed Bickert, Tommy Flanagan, Moe Koffman and Dave Young.
"Art Ellefson's tenor sound and concept is a thing of beauty. Stylistically rooted in the jazz mainstream, he nods at Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster and Lucky Thompson. His son Lee is a most gifted guitarist and composer."

"There's a jazz giant living in our midst. Ellefson's playing is masterful and deep . . . a tenor sax sound so ripe with emotion that it will warm and then break your heart. Great art."
